reviews: prostir is the most rescent ep of .at/on (holota anton) from kiev, ukranie, published by japanese netlabel -n (minusn.com) who had released very interesting material in the past such as andrey kiritchenko's scatter stars and coeval's distante.prostir is blessed with power and splashed with a small aura of innocence. the album starts very dramatically with the song that gives the name to the ep: prostir, a harsh song with incredible textures and pinning timbres that fight with each other through the entire track. the violence of this song establishes a relation with the liner notes, where hola anton makes emphasis in the economical disparity between africa and the g8 countries. the distorted vocal samplers suggest us radio and tv new developing a sense of hazard and urgency. x, the second track, is martial, like a march of pixels or grains in a harsh stormy surreal landscape. this tracks takes the record to a more rhythmical minimal moment. y is a song i personally feel is too descriptive for an album that is mainly suggestive. finally there is z which sets us back to the first minutes of the ep, where abstractness and eerie timbre-constructed structures, develop a claustrophic / agorophobic landscape where timbres and amplified surfaces violently drift and finally fade into sudden oblivion. prostir is a very interesting album that left me wanting more minutes of abstractness and tonal hell and less minutes of idm-like rhythmic structures. his previous release "univ_rse" was constructed in a more formal manner, and prostir is indeed a more risky and mature record in therms of concept and sound. as a reviewer i'd like to write about stuff that is more in the art / conceptual aspect of music than in the entertining side of music, prostir is mainly a conceptual / sonic art oriented ep, although it has some more formal musical values that i feel are distractive. prostir is a great album, but i feel the best of .at/on is yet to come. by david velez @ earlabs combined review of mn011 and mn012 japanese minus n label surprises us with an interesting compilation, as well as a release by one of the bands on that compilation. i have no idea who .at/on is, but perhaps he is from the ukraine, since 'prostir' means dimension in that language. four tracks appear on the cdr, three further ones are only available at the website. the music was all made with samples, vst instruments, synthedit, fruityloops and acid: all window programs alien to this apple eater. there are some political dimensions to this release, regarding the third world and dimensions to that. the four tracks i heard are great actually. loopy and noisy stuff, with sounds dropping in and out, voices, shortwave like sounds making small rhythms and such. clicks & cuts moving out of the ordinary. "movin' on" is the title of the compilation and as far as i'm concerned this is both the program for the label minus n, as well as a current state of mind in the field of clicks and cuts music. it has moved away from the pure techno related pieces from yesteryear, into music that has grown a lot since then. some of these pieces are still techno influenced, such as those by pero, shalma and salman or the very housy, luomo like piece by motor, but there is also the pan sonic like piece by g_n44f, jos smolders off beat rhythms, the rock drumkit by goem|fdw or the sample mishmash of claudia bonarelli and the dubby lod. besides some known names (and for instance in smolders' case, unexpected ones) many new names are to be discovered here, plus both releases are also available for free to download. by frans de waard @ vital weekly comments: Hy, I like the musikstuff... posted by Joe Kid - 2007.11.06 post a comment: |

'prostir' was created to direct your attention to africa and to the third world: life expectancy is 77 years in g8 countries while it's only 48 years in africa. 100% of the british people have access to safe drinking water, and only 45% have the access in congo. in the next 25 years, 60% of the world population will have to survive without water. in the usa, the rate of the car ownership is 561 vehicles per 1,000 inhabitants while 14 vehicles in africa. the average annual income is $27,854 in developed countries and only $1,690 in africa. over 50% of the people on earth have never used a phone. g8 is now giving away $311 billion to the western farmers, and its help to africa is $13 billion. |
